Let Him delight over us

It was reported to be the biggest snowstorm in the past two years. Forty to sixty centimeters of snow were expected to fall over the next couple of days. The schools got closed and there was much joy when my daughter found out that it was going to be a long weekend.

The first snowy day we spent at home, enjoying the sight of the winter out of the window. It felt cozy to watch the snow falling and piling up outdoors from the inside of a warm place. The next day it felt a bit boring sitting at home so we decided to go sledding for a change.

The park was empty. It seemed as if we were the only people left. There was not a soul, not even a squirrel or a bird. The animals were probably hiding in their nests waiting for the snow storm to come to an end. The ground all over the park was covered with a thick layer of snow. Sledding down the hill wasn’t as fun as expected. The snow was actually preventing the sled from gliding. After going down a couple of times, we decided to go towards the slide structure where my child could slide down right into the pile of snow at the bottom of the slide.

As I stood there and watched my daughter exploring the snow in the midst of the silent snowfall, I felt the presence of God. We all know He is omnipresent. He is everywhere. But oftentimes the noise and the rush of our daily lives make us not notice it.

The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing.
— Zephaniah 3:17

Nothing more mattered to me but simply being there and watching my child in the snow, so peaceful and quiet. I felt delighted as I watched her exploring the nature. I thought “this is how God must be feeling, rejoicing as He watches us, His children, living righteous lives at peace with ourselves and others.”

There were no worries; no thoughts of me not being as good enough or successful enough as others; no rushing through my daily chores.

Just us. Me and my child and God our Father.

We don’t have to wait for heavy snowfall to remind ourselves that God is always amidst us and He watches over us. He saves. He quiets and calms us with His abundant love. And He rejoices over us.

So today, let’s stop rushing.

Let’s start living and enjoying our lives.

Let’s stop comparing our achievements and ourselves to others.

Let’s walk down our own path.

Let’s rejoice every day.

Let’s praise the Lord for His goodness.

Let’s love our God as He loves us.

Let’s love one another.

So that the Lord our God rejoices over us as He watches us. In the same way as we, parents, rejoice and delight over our kids as we watch them playing peacefully in the snow.

Amen.

Live and Rejoice.
